I’m so SO excited to share this week’s vendor interview! Today we have an interview with William of Humanstory Films – a company that makes documentary style wedding films … and they are amazing! The story of the couple is told through footage of the wedding day along with conversations from their closest friends and family members. Filled with stories and memories about the couple, these films are personal and incredibly touching. Check out the interview and videos below to see for yourself! … Photo Credit: HumanStoryFilms.com How long have you been in business? Humanstory has been around and I have been shooting weddings for about four years now. Before that, i was editing for documentaries, adverting and corporate and non profit work. What inspired you to start your business? I have been a fan of documentary films for a long time. Several years ago, I decided to make a biography film about my father and considered doing that for other people too. At one point, I had an opportunity to shoot a wedding and decided to incorporate a biographic approach to the wedding shoot. I was hooked. I started shooting weddings full time almost immediately after that. Tell us why you think your business is successful. I think that as my work has been seen by more people, I have been able to get matched up with the clients who are really looking for our type of film. The real secret to a positive client experience is to shoot for the people with whom we are the right fit and not try to force our approach on people who don’t want it. A happy client is better than any paid advertising any day. At least 90% of our work is based on referrals. What makes your business unique? I think it is the focus on storytelling with interviews. This process adds context to the visuals of the wedding day film. It’s not just about a the wedding. It’s also about the lives and moments that brought these two people to this day. I am told that we have an easy and unassuming approach to getting stories out of people. Is there a particular niche you target? I don’t target any niche in particular. I shoot the kind of films I like to watch, real and honest documentaries. I seem to partner with clients that have a good sense of story and see the importance of documenting their day and their story. I guess you could call that a niche. What is your company’s philosophy when working with wedding couples? Basically, it is recognizing right away that everyone has a unique story. The sooner we acknowledge that fact and keep our eyes and minds open , the sooner we are able to get to the real storytelling process. How do you help couples customize their weddings? Usually a combination of 1) a questionnaire and then 2) one or two conversIons on what is important to them as well as what is important about the wedding day. Because we try to show the events and the stories in an hone... |

Ok, so I have just one question for you…would you Marryoke? What the heck is that, you might ask? Marryoke is the latest craze in wedding videos where the bride and groom, along with their wedding party, star in their very own MTV-style music video. Granted, this is probably NOT for the faint of heart, but it is guaranteed to inject some serious fun into your wedding day! In this version of karaoke all participants are actually lip-syncing to a song, there is no actual singing involved. So, as you might imagine, the real magic happens when the “cast” gets really into the characters they are playing! Think ‘ Summer Lovin ‘ from ‘Grease’ and you’ll get the picture. So how does it work? Well, first you will need to find a film production company who offers this type of service. Then, you will be asked to pick a song to perform (ideally one featuring a duet between a guy and girl) and the film company will direct you through the rest of the process. The film company should provide you with the song’s lyrics, so everyone participating can memorize them before the big day, and also produce a storyboard for you. Then, all of the actual filming is done on the wedding day itself. Typically, the song is played several times during the course of the day, in different settings, and your film production company will then edit where necessary to make it look as though the bride and groom are starring in their very own music video, a... |
